As of Thursday I have officially owned a Thermomix for a week.
I've already named him Hermy and I'm in love.
Admittedly it was a slow start to the week. Last weekend was our wedding anniversary so we spent all weekend at restaurants celebrating so Hermy didn't really get put to good use until this week.
So what have we done in our first week?
We have made scones-which were AMAZING I've always used a scone recipe with cream and lemonade. The Thermomix recipe I found had a whole pile of ingredients and I was worried they wouldn't be as light or fluffy as my lemonade ones. Boy was I wrong! And my favourite part was I didn't have to knead the dough! Hermy did it all for me. It took 7 seconds to mix and then 10 seconds of kneading in Hermy and the dough was ready. Another three minutes to roll out and place on a cookie tray reading for baking. I've never cooked so fast in my life!
Chicken and Leek pie- I'm not a big pie person usually but this recipe was amazing. When looking at buying a Thermomix I was worried how good the meat would taste. I'm normally a big fan of my slow cooker and love my meat beautiful and tender. Well Hermy delivers! Mr 3 was a huge fan of the mini pies and ate 2 for dinner and 2 for lunch the next day. Miss 5 was a little bit more cautious of trying new foods, but in the end she made it through an entire pie.
Pastry- we made the pasty for the chicken and leek pie. It was a joint effort with hubby. Something I would never normally make our first batch of pastry was amazing. I was worried I would stuff it up or it wouldn't look right, but it was flaky and tasty and cooked perfectly.
Stock paste- when Hermy was delivered the consultant had a list of hot hints she needed to show me and so we go made a stock. So simple, I already had all the ingredients in the house and it made two massive jars of stock paste. I'm not a fan of store brought stock-never have been-but this is lovely. Adding it to any recipe I find I'm not getting the massive burst of salt I usually get.
Strawberry Jam- this was today's effort. And wow! Again so quick and easy, chuck everything into Hermy press a few buttons and 60 minutes later out comes a beautiful fragrant strawberry jam. The kids haven't road tested this one just yet as it's still cooling down, but from what I tasted it was amazing.
Chicken Risotto- technically not made yet, this is on the menu for tonight. And I'm excited, I've never succeeded at cooking a risotto-although I did try once. Never having eaten risotto growing up I've never been around people cooking it either. But I love it and I have full faith that Hermy will deliver tonight :-)
Bit of a slow start to using my Thermomix but I want to start with the basics, get used to the machine and the way it cooks before I start going totally crazy with inventing my own recipes.
It's safe to say it's been a very happy first week and Hermy now takes pride of place on my kitchen bench.
